Lawn Bowls

Our BSSC lawn bowls teams had a very successful day at the Loddon Mallee Region finals at Golden Square Bowls Club, with our two teams finishing first and second. The overall result came down to the last game of the day where our teams played against each other. The team of Dallan Klemke, Travis Berry, and Jack Lake defeated the team of Charlie Manning, Jack Bourke and Matthew Aisbett. Dallan, Travis, and Jack will now represent BSSC at the SSV State Finals in Melbourne early next term.

Our winning team was undefeated for the day, while Charlie, Jack, and Matthew only lost one other game. Other teams competing were from Catholic College Bendigo, and Echuca.

Basketball

On Wednesday, our basketball teams competed in the Rowville Invitational Tournament in Melbourne. The tournament brings together a number of schools that run specialist basketball programs, so the standard of play is always very high.

Our girls team performed exceptionally well, defeating Hallam 55 – 13, Maribyrnong 25 – 24, and Templestowe 31 – 20 during the round-robin games, with their only defeat being a one-point loss to Rowville. They qualified for the final against Rowville, losing 24 -29. This was their third game in a row without a break, so an excellent result after a very demanding day.

Well done to Brooke Mangan, Rachelle Mangan, Elisa Pica, Ahlise Hurst, Shardae Sharp, Poppy Blanch, Jess Rennie, Keisha Tonzing, Hayley Harrington, and Lucinda Smythe.

The boys team came up against some high quality teams and unfortunately didn’t score a win. They were very competitive in their losses to Hallam (26 – 33), and Rowville (41 – 62).

Great effort from our team: Brandon Etherington, Max Bone, Mark Swiney, Xavier Salm, Sam Brynhldsen, Lachie Dillon, and Ben Wickens.

A big thank you to Jonathan Goodman who coached both teams on the day.

Defending 137, our bowlers were able to contain the Girton batsmen throughout their innings and restricted them to 77 after their 20 overs. Bailey Goodwin and Jay McLeod both took two wickets, while Justin Slater took one wicket and only conceded two runs from his four overs.
In the final against Catholic College Bendigo, our batsmen again struggled early, losing 3 for 4 within the first couple of overs. Bailey Henderson held the innings together early making 18, and then the middle and lower order batsmen all made good contributions to eventually finish with 124. Josh Williams (18), James Schischka (13), Jarrett Miles (19), Jackson Guan (18no) and Jay McLeod (23no) all batted well. CCB started well in the run chase and had 32 runs on the board in the first three overs.
