CRICKET BOYS SUCCESS

Congratulations to our boys’ cricket team who won the Sandhurst Division Senior competition last Monday. They now qualify for the Loddon Mallee Region finals on Tuesday, 14th March.

In the Sandhurst Division matches, the BSSC boys played Girton in the first game. Batting first, we got off to a shaky start and were 3 for 8 after the first ball of the third over. Good contributions from Zane Keighran (34) and James Schischka (33) stabilised the innings through the middle overs, and then Jay McLeod (17) and Jack Bourke (16) added some much needed runs at the end of the innings. Defending 137, our bowlers were able to contain the Girton batsmen throughout their innings and restricted them to 77 after their 20 overs. Bailey Goodwin and Jay McLeod both took two wickets, while Justin Slater took one wicket and only conceded two runs from his four overs.

In the final against Catholic College Bendigo, our batsmen again struggled early, losing 3 for 4 within the first couple of overs. Bailey Henderson held the innings together early making 18, and then the middle and lower order batsmen all made good contributions to eventually finish with 124. Josh Williams (18), James Schischka (13), Jarrett Miles (19), Jackson Guan (18no) and Jay McLeod (23no) all batted well. CCB started well in the run chase and had 32 runs on the board in the first three overs. Our bowlers recovered from the initial onslaught and took regular wickets for the remainder of the innings to restrict their opponents to 92. Bailey Goodwin and James Schischka both took two wickets.

TENNIS

Selection trials for the BSSC tennis teams are under way. The College has a boys’ and girls’ team, with four members in each team. First selection trial was held at the grass courts on Thursday, 23rd February, with a second selection trial taking place next Thursday (2nd March) at 1:30pm. Any students interested in trying out for the team must attend these selection trials. Please remember to bring your racquet and appropriate footwear.
