Last week saw the stunningly successful annual VCAL Market Day raise more than $3000 for Red Cross Australia; Haven Home Safe; McKern Foundation; Australia East Timor Association and UNICEF.
The Ulumbarra Plaza was definitely the place to be last Thursday at lunchtime, with everyone enjoying the fantastic atmosphere of music, food and activities.
Students were creative in their ideas for raising money. Some designed and made cards, beanies and lip balm while others created mosaic garden art and blankets.
Stalls offering lots of delicious food rounded out the efforts with choices of food including spring rolls, soup, a hotdog van, and a special garlic sausage sizzle that sold out very quickly. Sweets treats such as raspberry muffins and student-made slices were also snapped up while our talented musicians took to the Plaza stage.
Market Day is when VCAL students demonstrate their work and personal development skills while raising funds for charities and community groups. VCAL students organised a wide variety of activities, contacting local businesses, advertising their stalls and selecting community organisations to receive the funds raised.
The college is especially grateful for the weeks of hard work from staff and students and to Michael McKern and other members of the McKern Foundation who came to support our students.
Our successful market day could not have been achieved without the generous support from businesses within the community. We would also like to thank and acknowledge the following businesses and individuals for their support: –
