More than 20 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across Bendigo, gathered at BSSC today for an intensive Yidaki (didgeridoo) workshop.

The students are all learning didgeridoo under the tutelage of Wakka Wakka Elder, Uncle Paul Chapman, and today had the opportunity to create their own didgeridoo from scratch.

Uncle Paul said it was heartening to see the pride the young men have in their work.

“Seeing the boys learning to use the tools and create something that connects them to culture is really important,” he said.

“They’ll take a lot of pride in these didgeridoos and hopefully it will feel really meaningful when they play them. We might have some future didgeridoo teachers among this group of boys.”
