When we caught up with Year 12 student, Isaac Lowndes, this week he was in his element—working alongside Andrew from Steve Pilcher Landscaping to transform a front yard in Epsom.

It was one of several jobs Isaac worked on as part of his Structured Work Placement with the Bendigo landscaping firm.

“I saw the opportunity come up on the BSSC Job Board,” he said. “I’ve been keen on landscaping for a while and this was such a great opportunity.”

His supervisor, Andrew, said he was really happy with Isaac’s progress throughout the week.

“He’s done a great job,” Andrew said. “He’s handled everything we’ve thrown at him… you only have to show him how to do something once.”

Isaac is studying a VCAL program at BSSC along with VET Agriculture and VET Sport and Rec.

“I’m really keen to get an apprenticeship,” he said. “It would be great to do a school-based apprenticeship or at least have something in place for 2022 before the end of the year.”
