AFL GIRLS – SSV STATE QUARTER AND SEMI-FINAL

The BSSC Lions girls AFL team competed in the SSV State Quarter and Semi-Finals in Ballarat last week. In their quarter-final they had a comfortable win against Horsham SC, winning 4.8.32 to 1.6.12. The girls kicked 2.4 to 0.0 in the first quarter and controlled the game from then on. Shelby Knoll kicked three goals and Mia Ward one. Best players were Ella Wicks, Bree Heiden, Shelby Knoll, Abbey Barber, and Sharni Barker.

In the semi-final, the Lions came up against a very strong team from Sunbury. We were put on the back foot early in the game after sustaining a couple of injuries. To the girls’ credit, they never gave up and worked hard to try to get back into the game. Sunbury proved too strong and won 8.4.52 to 1.0.6. Shelby Knoll was the only goal-kicker, and best players were Shelby, Bree Heiden, Eliza Long, Abbey Barber, and Meg Parker.

The girls were only one win away from qualifying for a state final. Congratulations to all team members on a fantastic effort.

Mia Ward, Mikayla Myers, Sam Reaper, Sharni Barker, Eliza Long, Ella Wicks, Bridie Blake-Burrows, Emily Cooper, Emily Galtieri, Meg Parker, Bree Heiden, Maddie Jackson, Alice Layton, Shelby Knoll, Emilie Tuohey, Abbey Barber, Phoebe Jane, Skylah Roberts, Lillian Puttasri, and coaches Dean Sheldrick and Paige Conder.

CLAY TARGET SHOOTING

Meshaila Cox and Jeremy Robinson represented Bendigo Senior Secondary College at the recent North East Zone Clay Target Championships. Meshaila shot 16 out of 20 and was unlucky to miss out on the shoot-off for second and third place by a single target. Jeremy also missed out on the placings. Congratulations to both competitors on a great effort.
