Geared4Careers is a career support program available across north-east and central Victoria, funded by GAME Traffic & Contracting, a local social enterprise dedicated to creating positive outcomes for young people in regional Victoria.
The program is supporting around 700 students in the local area by providing career guidance, pathway planning, and practical employment support.
From helping students obtain Tax File Numbers and develop professional resumes to assisting them in securing their first jobs, Geared4Careers equips young people with the skills and confidence needed for the workforce.
Based at Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC), Program Officers Raquel, Joel and Lisa are passionate about supporting students as they explore future career and education opportunities.
Raquel says, “Every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed. I love that we can support the students overcome barriers, build confidence and take the next step towards meaningful employment and a brighter future.”
Lisa enjoys assisting students to have the confidence to handle the transition from junior school to senior and into young adulthood.
“Watching students learn and achieve independently is incredibly rewarding and will be skill that will be of value throughout their entire working life”.
And Joel says, “It is amazing to help students through what can be a confusing and stressful time, and to see them step into the adult world confident and prepared is extremely rewarding.”
Geared4Careers begins working with students from Year 9, supporting them to find their first after-school job and building strong, ongoing relationships through regular contact and mentoring.
The program also helps students connect with local employers, training organisations and career support services, creating valuable networks that support future success. Maintaining contact with participants as they move into employment, apprenticeships, training or further education is an important part of ensuring each student remains supported on their career journey.
