Athletics season approaching

Bendigo Harriers Athletics Club is looking to recruit people for athletics. The Club has two points of focus – pole vault and winter pre-season.

The pole vault is a highly specific event, but Bendigo has always been well represented at State and National level. The club is looking for strong, athletic people. Height certainly helps, as does speed, but the club can work with anyone who is keen. It’s quite a technical event, but a background in gymnastics, tumbling, diving, or other spatial awareness activities is a plus.

The winter pre-season is for winter sport enthusiasts (football, soccer, netball) who might wish to improve running ability.

If you are interested in pole vault or the winter pre-season (or any other form of athletics), please contact Brett Gilligan on 0407 534 742. Coaching takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights from about 4:30pm.

Bendigo Tennis Association – summer season

The Bendigo Tennis Association (BTA) and member clubs are now recruiting interested players for the 2017/18 summer season of tennis competitions. There has never been a better time to join tennis, with the $6.4m redevelopment of the Bendigo Tennis Complex now open.

To promote the new season, the BTA is offering all Primary and Secondary School Students a FREE trial membership, running for 6 weeks from 15th August – 30th September, 2017. Once registered, players will be provided FREE court hire access at the Bendigo Tennis Complex, valid until 30th September, 2017.

Registration is simple and can be done directly through the Bendigo TA website (www.bendigotennis.com.au).  Players will also be provided information about summer tennis and how they can get further involved.

For any enquiries, please contact Leon Retallick on 0438 395 776 or info@bendigotennis.com.au

Canoeing and kayaking – towards Olympic trials program

Students interested in flat-water and white-water canoeing and kayaking may be interested in attending the ‘Towards Olympic Trials Program’, organised by the Bendigo Academy of Sport. It will be conducted at Lake Weeroona on Saturday, 7th October at 9:30am.

The day includes a great introduction to both flat-water and white-water kayaking (equipment supplied), access to national coaches, and an opportunity to work towards representing Australia in international competition.

Places exist for boys and girls from throughout Central & North Central Victoria with selection based on current and potential ability. Successful candidates will be offered a six month Academy Program, beginning in October, which includes physical, skill, and athlete education sessions. Athletes must be under 18 years as of 31/12/17.

Expressions of interest can be made with Graham Gordon, Bendigo Academy of Sport Executive Officer on 03 5444 7700 or g.gordon@latrobe.edu.au
