AFL – Premier League Grand-Final
Following the loss in this week’s Grand Final, the season is now over for our BSSC Lions AFL Premier League team. The team went down to Essendon Keilor College by 32 points. It was a closely fought contest for three quarters, with our boys trailing by only 10 points at three-quarter-time. The Lions had much of the early play in the last quarter but couldn’t convert possession into goal scoring opportunities. The opposition was then too strong in the final 15 minutes and ran out 10.4.64 to 4.8.32 winners. In this elite level competition, it was a phenomenal effort to reach the final. The players were great ambassadors for the College in the way they conducted themselves on and off the field throughout the season, and should be extremely proud of their achievement. Huge thanks to our coaching and support staff – Rick Coburn, Dean Sheldrick, Travis Matheson, Bill Higgs, Shirl Wallis, and John Clyne.

BASKETBALL – Sandhurst Division
Mixed fortunes for our basketball teams, with the girls winning the Sandhurst Division competition, and the boys losing narrowly.
The girls took a while to shake off a determined Catholic College Bendigo team, but eventually ran away with a comfortable 47–22 win. Top scorers were Jess Rennie (12), Poppy Blanch (10), and Ahlise Hurst (10).
The boys played Castlemaine Secondary College in their first game and came away with a 44–23 win. Top scorers were Fraser Bell (15), and Max Bone (9). The second game against CCB was close throughout. CCB established an early lead, but the BSSC boys hit the front late in the second half, only to be denied in the final minute to lose by a solitary point, 31–30. Top scorers were Ben Wickens (10), and Fraser Bell (7).
The girls now progress to the Loddon Mallee Region Finals on Thursday 27 July.
