Once again, BSSC’s athletes have excelled. In the past week our athletics competitors and cyclists have prevailed at the State level.  Congratulations to our students who are a credit to their families, their school and their community sporting clubs.

Victorian Schools Cycling Championships

BSSC’s cyclists had a very successful weekend in the finals of the Victorian Schools Cycling Championships road and MTB events held in Bendigo. Last Sunday, six riders contested the road finals, with all of them finishing in the top four in their event.

Isaac Buckell won the male JR19 racing final, with Dylan McKenna second, Nick Simpson third, and Connor Sens fourth. Pat Gretgrix also had a win in the male JR19 novice final.

In the female JR19 racing final, Teesha Smedley finished third. In the MTB finals on Saturday, Connor Sens was first over the line in the JR19 novice event.
Well done to all riders.

SSV State Athletics Finals

Congratulations to Matt Higgs, Hugh Schaeche, Jake Hilson, Shelby Gahan, and Kate Salvador who all competed in the SSV State Athletics Finals at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park last Monday.

Matt narrowly missed the gold medal in the javelin, eventually finishing second by less than a meter. Hugh ran a strong 800 metres race to pick up a bronze medal, and stormed home in the 1500 metres to finish fourth. Shelby went close to claiming a medal in both the hurdles and high jump, finishing fourth in both events. Jake ran home strongly in the final 200 metres of his 400-metre event to also finish fourth. Kate did very well to finish sixth in her 800-metre event.

Commendable results from all our competitors, especially given that they were competing against the best athletes from throughout the whole state!
