Congratulations to the many BSSC students who experienced finals success in local Football and Netball finals and club awards over the holidays. We also had students competing for Victoria in the National Futsal championships and Australian Schools orienteering championships. Term 4 competitions are also under way with athletics this past week.

Loddon Mallee Region athletics finals
Our track and field athletes had a very successful day at the Loddon Mallee Region athletics finals.
Results:
1st – Shelby Gahan (hurdles, high jump), Kate Salvador (800m), Hugh Schaeche (800m, 1500m), Matt Higgs (javelin), Jake Hilson (400m)
2nd – Matt Higgs (long jump), Kate Salvador (200m, 1500m), Shelby Gahan (400m)
3rd – Keely Farnell (100m, 200m)
4th – Nathan James (400m), Tom Martin (1500m)
Kate Salvador, Keely Farnell, Jemimah Bish and Shelby Gahan also ran second in the 4x100m relay.
Congratulations to Shelby, Kate, Hugh, Matt, and Jake who have all qualified for the SSV State Finals on Monday 17 October.

National School Futsal Championships
Congratulations to Kieran Forrest, Brodie McSweeney, Pleh Eh, Bah Blu, Htee Moo, and Per Soe who were all members of the Victorian team that was runner-up in the 2016 National School Futsal Championships held in Brisbane over the holidays. The team finished 3rd at the end of the round-robin matches, but then defeated the 2nd-placed team in the semi-final to qualify for the final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the QLD team in the final. Special mention to Bah Blu on being selected in the All-Star Five at the end of the tournament. Well done boys!

Australian Schools Orienteering Championships
Congratulations to Lachlan Cherry and Jimmy Cameron who have just returned after representing Victoria at the School Sport Australia Championships and Australian Orienteering Carnival in QLD over the holidays. Both boys were members of the winning Vcitorian team in the Australian Schools Relay event. In the Australian Secondary Schools Individual Championships, Jimmy placed 5th and Lachlan 28th. In the Australian Orienteering Championships School Sprint, Jimmy placed 19th and Lachlan 24th. Great result. Well done!

Local Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to Wade Donnan, Josh Formosa, Bailey Henderson, Mitch Keuken, Keo Payne, and Lachie Ratcliffe who were all members of the winning Strathfieldsaye team in the U/18 football competition, where they defeated Sandhurst by 23 points. Josh Formosa and Billy Robertson (Sandhurst) were voted as best players in the Grand Final, winning the Ashman Medal and AFL Vic Country Medal respectively.

In netball, well done to Milly Wicks and Danielle Markwell were members of the winning Kangaroo Flat team which defeated Golden Square by 9 goals in the A Grade competition. Nicola McIvor also represented Kangaroo Flat in their 13-goal win over South Bendigo in the B Grade competition.

Congratulations also go to Elley Lawton who won the Wendy Ryan Medal as the A Grade Netball Best and Fariest player for Eaglehwk Football Netball Club. At the same club, Joel Mullen was runner-up in the Under 18 football Best & Fairest award, and Taylah Pointon was runner-up in the 17 and Under netball award.

Congratulations to Kelsey Ralph on winning the 17 and Under Best & Fairest netball award at Strathfieldsaye Football Netball Club. Another of our netballers, Kate Salvador, won the Coach’s Award. In the U/18 football Best and Fairest, well done to Josh Formosa who finished runner-up, just behind a former BSSC student, Connor Aldous. Lachie Ratcliffe won the Coach’s Award, and Bailey Henderson won the Rising Star Award.

We also had some winners at the GSFNC awards. Congratulations to Brock Harvey on winning the football U18 Best and Fairest. Abbey Ryan won the Coach’s award in A Grade netball, Adelaide Annaud was runner up in the B-Reserve Netball Best and Fairest and won the Coach’s award and Georgia Miller was runner-up in the 17 and under Best and Fairest.

While over at the KFFNC, Danielle Markwell won the 17 and Under netball Best and Fairest for Kangaroo Flat Football Netball Club.
