The Bendigo Senior Lions qualified through to the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Senior Boys Football (Soccer) State Championships which was held on Tuesday 2nd September at the Darebin International Sports Centre.

The Lions started the day off well against Mt Clear College (Ballarat) where the boys found the back of the net early to take a 3-0 lead. Mt Clear responded in the second half to bridge the gap to 3-2 before the final score being 4-2 in favour of the Lions.

The second game was intense against Mill Park Secondary College. The strong breeze played a key role in the style of play. Mill Park managed to score twice in the first half which meant catch up football for the lions in the second half. The boys had majority of the play for the second half and managed to score once but unable to equalise with the final score being 1-2.

The last game for the day was played against Galen College, Wangaratta. It was a rough and intense game with Galen scoring in the first half and the Lions hitting back in the second half. All the scoring and possession was down one end of the field and neither team was able to break the deadlock.

At the end of the day the boys finished second in their pool with only the top team of each pool making the final. A great effort from the team and a strong display of football from every player.

Thank you to Scott MacDonald for coaching the team in the three events and to Barnaby Seviour for driving the bus.
