Year 11 Biology students had a taste of university study yesterday when they attended a session in the science lab at La Trobe Uni to explore the natural antibiotic properties of plants. Students used samples of mainly native plant matter, including emu bush, eucalypt varieties, wattles and tea tree, extracting and analysing chemicals. The students have been learning that new antibiotics are developed by exploring living organisms.
