School sport competitions are under way with swimming comps this past week. Good luck to our lawn bowlers, basketballers, rowers and tennis players competing this coming week.

SWIMMING – SANDHURST DIVISION RESULTS

On Thursday, three of our students competed in the Sandhurst Division swimming carnival. All swam very well, with Holly Hawke crowned the Girl’s 17-20 years Age Group Champion after winning five individual events.

Results:

1st – Holly Hawke (200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke)

2nd – Aarne Santamaki (100m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke)

2nd – Nathan James (50m butterfly)

3rd – Nathan James (100m freestyle, 200m individual medley)

3rd – Aarne Santamaki (50m freestyle)

4th – Nathan James (50m backstroke)

5th – Nathan James (200m freestyle)

Our swimmers now progress to the Loddon Mallee Region finals on Thursday, 17th March.

BASEBALL – Maddy Davis

Congratulations to Maddy Davis who has just returned from Hong Kong after playing in the Australian Womens A Roo Development team that competed in the Asia Insurance Phoenix Cup.

The 2016 International Women’s Baseball Tournament saw the Australians competing against some baseball powerhouses of the Asia Pacific region, including China, Guam, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and tournament hosts, Hong Kong.

The team came home with the bronze medal. Well done, Maddy.

BASKETBALL – Alex Strawhorn

Congratulations to Alex Strawhorn who has just returned from Queensland after playing in the Victorian team in the Basketball Australia U/20 Womens National Championships.

The Victorian team finished in third place at the end of the round-robin games, but unfortunately lost their semi-final to South Australia 80 –72 to miss the gold medal game. In the bronze medal play-off, they went down to Queensland 78 – 73. Congratulations, Alex.

BASKETBALL GIRLS

Good luck to our girls basketball team competing in an Invitational Tournament at Rowville Secondary College on Wednesday 2 March.

TENNIS

Another training/selection trial will be held at lunchtime on Tuesday 1 March for students interested in representing BSSC in tennis. This will take place at the Bendigo Bank Tennis Complex in Nolan Street. Students are to meet outside the BSSC Sport office at 12:50 pm ready to leave.

Good luck to the team competing in the Sandhurst Division competition on Thursday 3 March.

LAWN BOWLS

Good luck to our lawn bowls teams competing at the Loddon Mallee region finals at the Golden Square Bowling Club on Friday 4 March.
