Our girls and boys basketball teams spent the past week in Melbourne competing in the 2017 Australian Schools Basketball Championships.
The girls were in the very prestigious Championship Division – only eight teams from the whole of Australia play in this division – while the boys played in the U/20 Division 3.
The Boys team of Darcy Jacobs, Max Bone, Aaaron Cunningham, Mark Swiney, Xavier Salm, Joel Clarke, Josh Hunt, Deakin Wells, Lachie Dillon, and Ben Wickens had a mixed tournament competing against some very tough opposition. They finished fourth in their pool and didn’t progress to the play-offs for medals.
They played incredibly well however and there were some incredible individual achievements. Lachie Dillon finishing 2nd for average points per game, and 2nd for three-point shots, while Mark Swiney was 1st for free-throws made.
The Girls team of Brooke Mangan, Rachelle Mangan, Elisa Pica, Ahlise Hurst, Shardae Sharp, Poppy Blanch, Jess Rennie and Hayley Harrington had a fantastic tournament making it through to the semi-finals.
In the end they made the bronze medal play-off against Willetton Senior High School, coming from 10 points down at three-quarter-time to win by five points – an outstanding effort.
Our girls are the number three schools team in Australia!
