Senior VCAL students are working with Bendigo Foodshare and StreetSmart Australia to produce 100 meals over two weeks to be distributed to the homeless.
The PDWRS students have been doing a unit of work around homelessness issues and are taking that knowledge into their Community Project.
This morning the VCAL kitchen was a hive of activity as students and staff peeled and stewed more than 20 kilos of locally sourced apples that will be made into 50 serves of apple crumble to be distributed by StreetSmart.
Next week they’ll be back in the kitchen preparing spicy lentils and rice.
Bendigo Foodshare rescues donated and surplus food to feed more than 12,485 local people each week via food distributions to local charities, community groups and schools. StreetSmart empowers communities to bring about change for people experiencing homelessness. They partner with organisations—like Foodshare—to support individuals and families.
