When BSSC student, Geordie Williamson, received the news that his painting had been selected for Top Arts 2026, he was beyond thrilled.
The annual Top Arts exhibition showcases the work of emerging artists who are completing their VCE studies. Geordie’s artwork will appear at the National Gallery of Victoria from March 13 to July 19.
His piece, titled ‘Allegory of a blanket’ is an oil painting on stretched cotton canvas and took around 65 hours to complete. It was selected from among thousands of other entries.
“I was very excited when I heard—not only for me, but also for my teachers,” he says. “Marcus is such a fantastic teacher and I think the achievement is a testament to his teaching.”
From his perspective, Marcus Patching says, “The Top Arts judges are very privileged to have such an outstanding artwork to select for their exhibition.”
The support from his teachers and fellow students—particularly those in BSSC’s Art department—has also meant the world to Geordie.
“I love the Arts Department. It’s so nice to be surrounded by art all day; pieces that have had hours and hours of work and care poured into them.”
Congratulations Geordie!
