Year 12 students Brooke Ludeman and Will Patton are about to launch BSSC onto the national stage through their participation in the 2026 Busselton Pedal Prix.
Human-powered vehicle endurance racing has been a growing sport—and subject at some schools—and Brooke and Will are taking BSSC’s ‘Snot Rocket’ to Western Australia in two weeks.
They will join around 120 teams from across the country for a gruelling six-hour endurance race with riders and teams testing their skills and trike designs along the beautiful Geographe Bay foreshore.
“We heard about the race from Daryl and wanted to go,” says Brooke. “Daryl sent us to chat to Kylie about it, who not only supported the idea, but gave us a small grant to help with some of the costs—which we’re covering ourselves.”
Brooke and Will, who were also given some great riding jersey’s from Moronis, sorted all the registrations etc, and worked on the vehicle in their own time—no small thing for Year 12 students to commit to.
“As far as we know, we’re the only team who designs, develops and builds their own vehicles,” Will says. “This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it’s such an honour to represent not only BSSC but Victoria too.”
They have arranged to have to Snot Rocket transferred by the truck taking the South Australian teams—which means they have to get the trike to Keith in the next week.
They will then fly to Perth early Saturday, take the train to Busselton, spend the afternoon getting to know the track and setting up their pit ready to give it their best shot the next day.
That’s when the real challenge begins as they ride in hour-and-a-half stints, the other pit-crewing for the rider.
The race finishes about 3pm on the Sunday afternoon and that night they catch the 11pm flight to Melbourne—the notorious ‘red-eye’ that, due to a 2-hour time difference means they fly for 4 hours but arrive in Melbourne at 6am.
They plan to be at school that day and are hoping to walk in holding a medal.
