BSSC Year 12 student, Rylee Greenshields, recently completed a week of Structured Workplace Learning with Lansell Homes.
The placement was a great opportunity for Rylee to build on the skills already developed through his three years of studying VET Building & Construction.
It also gave Rylee valuable insight into the building industry and confirmed his passion for construction work, where no two days ever seem to be the same!
Throughout the week Rylee took on the labouring responsibilities typical of a first-year apprentice, whilst being supported by the Lansell Homes team.
The student was introduced to the principle of ‘measure twice, cut once’ when preparing and cutting materials for the frame on a new home build.
Rylee gained hands-on experience—assisting with carpentry tasks, using a variety of tools, carrying and organising building materials, mixing concrete, and helping with framework preparation.
Maintaining a safe and tidy site was another important responsibility, reinforcing the importance of workplace safety.
“I’ve really enjoyed my placement and have learnt a lot,” says Rylee. “This experience has confirmed that I want to begin a career in building and construction.”
