Year 12 VET Automotive student Bodhi Thompson recently spent a week of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) at PGB Automotive in Epsom.
Here Bodhi was able to apply many of the skills he has acquired through his Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation at BSSC.
PGB Automotive owner, Phil, allowed Bodhi to be very hands-on throughout the week. He assisted PGB’s first year apprentice, Josh, with a wide variety of tasks across a range of vehicles.
From replacing drive belts, removing an engine, general servicing of vehicles, oil changes to diagnostic work, Bodhi experienced the day-to-day responsibilities of an automotive technician.
This placement also allowed Bodhi to focus on important workplace skills related to good communication, safe work practices and the importance of using and caring for appropriate tools and equipment.
“It’s been really good working here this week,” Bodhi said. “I can definitely see myself as a mechanic in the future. Doing SWL has helped me decide on my career.”
