Grace Bricknell is one of 11 BSSC Visual Art students who successfully applied for the 2020 Margaret Standen Bursary.
The bursary honours much-admired art teacher, Margaret Standen, whose untimely death in 2017 was a tragic loss, not only for her family, but for the many staff and students who were inspired by her. Her husband, Peter, generously established the bursary in her honour, and all Year 12 students studying Studio Arts or Art General at BSSC are eligible to apply.
“The bursary has allowed me to buy quality materials that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to own,” Grace said. “Before this, any material I could afford was cheap and convenient, and anything major was reserved for birthdays or Christmas.
With the bursary, I was able to purchase paint pens, a gouache set, a watercolour set and a set of fine liners. All these materials have been used in my folio, as well as for commissions and art for my own enjoyment. Learning from home has not been too different from usual, as I do a lot of my art at home, but I miss the support from the classroom, and can’t wait to get back to it.”
