Cricket – Sandhurst Division

The BSSC boys cricket team has progressed to the Loddon Mallee Region finals after winning this week’s Sandhurst Division competition. In their first game against Girton Grammar, BSSC batted first and posted a score of 126. Girton started their innings aggressively scoring 57 from the first 7 overs, but some good spin bowling from Kayde Howard and Noah Begg significantly slowed the run rate. Girton still needed 10 runs off the last over to win, but lost a couple of late wickets and fell 5 runs short. Riley Burns (29) and Braydon Vaz (25) top scored, and Kayde Howard (2 for 17) and Braydon Vaz (3 for 12) were the main wicket-takers. In the second game, our bowlers restricted Catherine McAuley College to 103 from their 20 overs. Jack Merrin took 3 for 20 and all the other bowlers were very economical. In reply, BSSC reached the target in the last over. Braydon Vaz made 51, Jack Ginnivan 20, and Ben Williams 15.

Well done to team members Dylan A’Vard, Riley Burns, Noah Begg, Jack Ginnivan, Kayde Howard, Tom Martin, Jack Merrin, Ryan O’Keefe, Ben Williams, Nash Viney, Braydon Vaz, coach Duane Anderson, and scorer Bailey Baxter.

The Loddon Mallee Region finals take place on Tuesday 12 March.
