NETBALLERS PERFORM WELL AT VIC SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

The BSSC netball girls concluded their 2017 season at the Netball Victoria School Championships Finals in Melbourne this week with some outstanding play. The team was up against the best teams from around the state, many of them with state representatives in their squad, but still won three of their six games, and were very competitive against the top teams. Well done to team members Danielle Markwell, Em Gray, Kelsey Ralph, Kate Salvador, Keely Wilson, Em Cossar, Rachelle Mangan, Georgia Lowther, Alice Layton, and Makayle Dole.

LACROSSE TEAM COMPETES AT SCHOOLS COMPETITION

The BSSC lacrosse team competed in the Lacrosse Victoria Senior Secondary State finals in Melbourne this week. They encountered some very strong opposition from schools which compete regularly in lacrosse competitions, but improved with every game throughout the day. They scored in four of the five games and all players should be very proud of their achievement. Well done to the team: Jen Andrews, Cheyenne Bourne, Jessica Byers, Jorgi Chuhaj, Jackson Epworth, Riley Hillier, Darcy Jacobs, Michael Keating, and Sarah Pagram. A special thank-you to coach Gino Iuliano from Bendigo Lacrosse Association who gave up his valuable time to come into the College every lunchtime for six weeks to train the team.

BASKETBALL – SSV FINALS

Best of luck to the BSSC girls basketball team for next Tuesday. They will be competing in the School Sport Victoria State Finals at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre. Team members are Jess Rennie, Ahlise Hurst, Hayley Harrington, Brooke Mangan, Rachelle Mangan, Poppy Blanch, Elisa Pica, Shardae Sharp, and Keisha Tonzing.

ATHLETICS SEASON APPROACHING

Bendigo Harriers Athletics Club is looking to recruit people for athletics. The Club has two points of focus – pole vault and winter pre-season.

The pole vault is a highly specific event, but Bendigo has always been well represented at State and National level. The club is looking for strong, athletic people. Height certainly helps, as does speed, but the club can work with anyone who is keen. It’s quite a technical event, but a background in gymnastics, tumbling, diving, or other spatial awareness activities is a plus.

The winter pre-season is for winter sport enthusiasts (football, soccer, netball) who might wish to improve running ability.

If you are interested in pole vault or the winter pre-season (or any other form of athletics), please contact Brett Gilligan on 0407 534 742. Coaching takes place on Tuesday and Thursday nights from about 4:30 pm.
