BSSC Year 11 student, Sammy-Jo Sanders-Densley, is giving back big time on her 16th birthday which also happens to be March 16.

That day will see her fronting up to local hairdresser, Teaze n Tanglez, to have her head shaved as part of the ‘World’s Greatest Shave’ which raises funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“I have promised to shave down to a number two if I get near my goal of $560. But if I reach it or exceed it, I will go to the scalp.”

Supporting cancer research is a cause very close to Sammy-Jo’s heart. She was only seven when her dad died of cancer and she also knows a number of people who have had leukaemia.

In truth, she’s been wanting to shave for a cure pretty much since she heard it was a thing.

“Mum wouldn’t let me!” she smiles. “But I knew if I didn’t do it soon, I never would.”
