A group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from BSSC and Castlemaine Secondary College have the opportunity to apply for a school-based apprenticeship training program (SBAT) while completing their Year 11 and 12 studies.
Today, they met with the host organisations and Bendigo TAFE over lunch.
Host organisations include North Central Catchment Management Authority, Parks Victoria, DELWP, Coliban Water and CVGT.
Students will gain a Certificate III qualification and be supported and guided by Elders, Aunties, Uncles and experts in the industries they work in.
A traineeship can motivate students to stay engaged in their studies as they are out in the workplace one day a week pursuing their area of interest.
The next step for those who attended the lunch is to practice interview techniques in preparation to meet with host organisations next week.
