Specialist Sports students today attended another in a series of valuable Life Skills sessions today, when Dietitian Jess Rothwell visited the college to share her vast experience.

Jess is a former International athlete and is passionate about working with athletes to assist their physical training and performance goals through nutrition education, eating plans and support. She is a consultant with the VIS and is currently completing an internship with the St Kilda footy club.

Jess spoke to students about what adolescent bodies need to stay healthy and perform at the elite sporting level, covering areas such as the consequences of poor nutrition, fuelling for training and competition, key nutrients, recovery foods, healthy snacks, hydration, prebiotics and probiotics.

“Listen to your body,” she told students. “Distribute your protein intake throughout the day, and make sure you combine smart carbohydrates with nutrients from all the food groups.”

A huge thank you to Jess for sharing her knowledge with our up and coming athletes.
