The foyer of Ulumbarra was the setting for a superb concert last night, as the BSSC community celebrated the 2025 Musician of the Year event.

Year 12 students impressed the crowd with their instruments of choice—guitar, french horn, clarinet, drums, vocals and piano—as they performed their hearts out and vied for the title of Musician of the Year.

Louisa Trewartha was guest adjudicator for the evening and had the unenviable task of selecting a winner and three honourable mentions.

Musician of the Year was awarded to Ella Honey, for her beautiful rendition of ‘The Light in the Piazza’, by Adam Guettel.

Will Patterson was runner up – performing ‘Poulenc Clarinet Sonata Mvt 3’ by Francis Poulenc.

Marcus Baldwin was the audience favourite and took home the Audience Choice Award.

Honourable mentions went to Jin Turpie, Jacoby Ah-Dore and Rhumehni William.

On behalf of the BSSC community, we extend our thanks to award sponsor, Bendigo Rotary Club, our accompanist for the evening, Cheryl Long, guest alumni performer, Violet Thoma, and our adjudicator for the evening, Louisa Trewartha.

Congratulations to our incredible music students, who put on an outstanding show.

A huge shout out also to BSSC’s music teachers, Ash Bird and Jacquie Tolhurst, who work hard every year to prepare our students for this event.
