Bendigo Senior Secondary College is thrilled to announce the appointment of its new principal: Kylie Hand.
Kylie will step into the role in April 2025—after a term of handover from BSSC’s current principal, Dale Pearce.
Kylie, of course, is no stranger to the college—having commenced teaching at BSSC in 2002 and been a member of the leadership team for the majority of her employment at the school.
She was appointed Assistant Principal at BSSC in 2010, with responsibility for Student Engagement and Wellbeing and, more recently, has held the position of Assistant Principal: Teaching and Learning since 2022.
Kylie is passionate about fostering an inclusive and respectful school environment and has played a pivotal role in establishing BSSC’s strong Wellbeing Team.
She helped steer the college community through COVID restrictions and lockdowns and is highly regarded by staff, students, parents and the broader community for the depth of her knowledge, passion for teaching and learning, and genuine care for others.
Kylie expressed her enthusiasm about the new role.
“It is an honour and a privilege to be trusted with the responsibility to lead our wonderful college on the next step in our journey,” she says.
“I look forward to supporting our community to continue on our already strong positive trajectory of providing outstanding learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students, while being open to new initiatives that will see our college grow even stronger.”
Upon announcing his plans to retire earlier this year, Dale expressed that it had been an “enormous privilege” to lead the college—having been appointed principal of the college in 2006.
Kylie will be the first female head of the school in its 118-year history.
On behalf of the entire BSSC community, we congratulate Kylie and look forward to the exciting new chapter that lies ahead for Bendigo Senior Secondary College under her leadership.
