RILEY HOWARD – YEAR 11

What are the biggest challenges for you learning at home?

Staying on task and not getting distracted, which is hard when there’s no teacher to keep me on task. I also find it difficult to stay motivated when it’s so easy not to do the work that is given to you.

Which subject is proving the toughest to study remotely?

Probably VET CISCO; we can’t do any of the hands-on stuff with the networking equipment, which helps me understand the bookwork that we have to do.

What do you like about learning at home?

Definitely not having to wake up early and catch a train to school. Not getting up so early helps me get ready for classes and not be as rushed when I start. I also have constant access to my coffee machine which is pretty awesome.

Have you got a favourite place at home to work?

At my desk in my room. It’s nice and quiet and I can’t get distracted by my little brothers.

What’s your iso exercise of choice?

Riding either my mountain bike or my road bike. I can get out in nature and relax a bit.

Any funny, unexpected things that have happened as a result of learning at home?

I accidentally interrupted one of my younger brother’s classes and got a pretty funny reaction from one of my old teachers at my previous school.

What are you most looking forward to about getting back on campus?

Getting out of the house and having some sort of structure in my days again.

What’s something you do to completely switch off from study?

Listen to music, get outside on my bike, or play my guitar.

Anything you’d like to say to the rest of the BSSC community during lockdown?

Stick in there—only seven days left of online learning.
