Each year BSSC becomes aware there are a number of students who may harbour dreams of going to uni, but are facing challenges that could potentially see them unwilling to even apply.

Enter La Trobe’s Regional Pathways Program.

Program coordinators and the team who runs the program have been meeting with students at BSSC on a fortnightly basis to guide them regarding information about everything from subject requirements or prerequisites, and how to apply to uni through to life on campus and accommodation options. And much more.

The program is made possible by a community of local donors keen to assist students’ transition from secondary school to higher education.

Today students had their final Regional Pathways Program workshop at BSSC, attended by La Trobe University and BSSC staff as well as the donors who generously support the program.

Representatives from Strategem Financial Group, Coliban Water and the Agnico Eagle Community Partnership Program enjoyed meeting the students they have supported throughout the year.

“I want to say how fortunate our young people are,” BSSC principal, Kylie Hand, said to the gathered group.

“I am incredibly grateful for the amazing relationship we have with La Trobe University: they have supported our students and built their confidence in their academic potential.”

“I’m also incredibly grateful to all the sponsors for investing in our amazing young people.”

Students were presented with goodie bags from the La Trobe team and assured that the connection with La Trobe would continue for years to come.
