Fantastic achievement for Year 12 student, Isaac Buckell, (riding with Godfrey Slattery) in claiming a bronze medal in the Madison event at the 2017 Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy.
The green and gold jerseys of Buckell and Slattery were seen near the front throughout the 120 lap race.

A strong start with points in five of the first six sprints saw Australia locked in a three way battle with Denmark and Russia with Australia holding a two point lead at the halfway point.

As the high pace started to take a toll on the bunch the Danish team were able to lap the field giving them breathing room at the head of the race to secure gold.

The battle for silver and bronze between Australia and Russia went down to the final sprint. Although Australia came in second, their total of 23 points was not enough to top Russia’s 25 points that saw them take the silver by the narrowest of margins.

Congratulations Isaac!
