Year 12 student and keen hockey player, Jorgie Wright, has been selected for the Victorian Country Open Womens Hockey team that will compete in the Australian Championships at Shepparton in August.
Hockey has been Jorgie’s sport for more than 10 years and she’ll line up in defence for the Vic Country team.
“I was pretty excited when I was selected,” she says. “Getting to play for Victoria in an open women’s squad when you are only 18 is quite an achievement.”
Like most young athletes, Jorgie has relied on supportive parents to ferry her to events, and a school that supports such extra-curricular pursuits.
“I’m really grateful for the support I’ve had to get to this stage, and am really looking forward to the Championships next month,” she said.
Congratulations, Jorgie! Have a great tournament.
