Senior VCAL students in the HeadStart program had a great introduction to their next major project this morning with a visit from John McDonald of the Bendigo Sustainability Group (BSG).
As part of their ‘research a social issue’ requirement, the class is looking at waste management, particularly the challenges faced by the City of Greater Bendigo when it comes to managing local waste.
Mr McDonald talked the students through what happens to waste in Bendigo, the impact of landfill on the environment, and the difference between a linear and circular economy.
The class then presented their own project idea—to repurpose wooden pallets as furniture for the VCAL outdoor area. The furniture project will kick off in earnest in Term 3. We’ll keep you up to date with their progress.
