Visual Art students gained valuable insights into folio work and filmmaking today when former student Evan van Veen (Class of 2017) visited the college to share his experiences both of VCE at BSSC and his first year of study in Film and Television at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).
It was busy day for Evan, who spoke to seven different classes throughout the day, finishing off with a fun and informative session with Unit 3 Media students focused on filmmaking.
Evan screened two of the short films from his first year at VCA and discussed topics such as scouting locations, set and prop design, auditioning, editing and collaborating with other creatives. He urged students to make the most of their time at the college.
“I’d made films before I came to BSSC, but the Media Studies course gave me the space and time to develop skills, experiment more, and make films of a much higher standard,” he said. “It’s pretty fantastic here. If you’re passionate about film there are lots of opportunities.”
Evan was a recipient of the Mason Trust Bursary in 2018.
