The diverse group of staff that make Bendigo Senior Secondary College such an incredible place, includes many generous community volunteers.
Pictured here is just a handful of our staff who give back or pass it on in a wide range of roles.
Their contributions range from coaching or managing local sporting teams to community theatre; from the CFA to roles with service clubs.
Some staff serve on boards of organisations or on school councils—or even dedicate time to reading programs for children.
Some support vulnerable individuals or donate blood—others are involved with sustainability and caring for the environment.
Mick Thoren, who has racked up over 240 blood and plasma donations, says, “I like to think I am helping someone I don’t even know. And I get a free quick health check each time.”
Kara Fox raises money for charities every year.
“I support many fundraising organisations, and am currently completing the Step Up to Breast Cancer initiative by walking 56kms during August, representing the number of women who die from this disease each day.”
BSSC also has staff who come in early to ensure our students are well-fed, through our Breakfast Program.
Whilst many of our volunteers aren’t pictured here, we honour the breadth of care and support volunteers from BSSC provide.
Later in the year we will celebrate our student volunteers through our community awards. Applications for students will open soon.
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” — Elizabeth Andrew
