VCAL students had an incredible insight into workplace bullying and discrimination over the past two days with presentations from representatives of the Young Workers Centre (YWC).
Based in Melbourne, the YWC is a one-stop-shop for young workers who want to learn more about their rights at work or who need assistance in resolving workplace issues.
YWC presenters lead the students through a series of real-life case studies that help them explore what workplace bullying looks like, the power dynamics in workplaces, unfair dismissal, workplace injuries and Workcover, sexual harassment, the Occupational Health & Safety Act… and so much more.
The YWC message is clear… speak up.
No one has to accept bullying in the workplace. Keep an incident diary—make complaints in writing—and if you see something, say something. Ask your co-workers if they are okay.
