Each year BSSC staff, students and special guests gather in the Ulumbarra Theatre to reflect on the cost of war and the value of peace.

At this year’s Anzac Day ceremony the theme of ‘Peace Keeping, Peace Making, Peace Building’ guided reflections, presentations, and music during a moving and inspiring hour.

Uncle Graham Atkinson reminded everyone through his Acknowledgement of Country of the deep connections First Nations Peoples have with this land.

Student Ambassadors ensured the smooth flow of the event and special thanks is due to student musicians whose heartfelt rendering of ‘Travelling Soldier’ and ‘Compulsory Hero’ as well as the Australian and New Zealand national anthems, added a great deal to the solemn gathering.

A presentation by BSSC Principal, Kylie Hand, was followed by an address from special guest speaker, Colonel Laura Sinclair, and the RSL address was presented by Bendigo RSL president—and BSSC staff member—Glenn Ludeman.

At a time when the drums of war continue to beat in places that can seem far away, this Anzac ceremony reminded us of the importance of maintaining all efforts at peace keeping, peace making and peace building.
