BSSC extends our congratulations to 2025 Dux, Jack Dunstan, who has achieved an ATAR of 97.6 AND scored a perfect 50 in Psychology.

VCE can be daunting, but Jack describes it as a “good challenge” that gave him a great goal to work towards. He identified staying motivated as his biggest challenge and now looks to study Engineering at RMIT—although with the ATAR he has, he can pretty much study whatever he wants.

The highlight of his time at BSSC was this morning’s discovery that he is the college’s 2025 Dux.

“I didn’t even consider it was a possibility,” he says. “I won’t be here for Awards Night because it didn’t occur to me I needed to keep that night free.”

Jack thanks his teachers for their enthusiasm for teaching—and for really caring about their students. He also offers the following advice to 2026 Year 12 students:

“Keep doing what you enjoy doing outside of school. I have continued going to the gym, swimming regularly, and kept up my piano lessons. I think this created the balance that allowed me to succeed as I have.”

Jack’s Year 12 Psychology teacher, Peter Mangold, said he was, “very proud of Jack’s discipline and self-motivation as a learner. He was tenacious in ensuring he truly understood the concepts the class was learning.”

BSSC particularly congratulates two other students who also achieved fabulous ATARs: Justine Hattingh with 96.7 and Geordie Williamson with 96.55.

Equally impressive were two students who join Jack in achieving perfect study scores of 50. Mary Maple Worley in Environmental Science, taught by Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, and Kayla Guthrie, in VET Allied Health, taught by Kait Kelly.

“BSSC is absolutely delighted that so many of our 2025 Year 12 students have attained such exceptional results,” Principal Kylie Hand said this morning. “They should be immensely proud of their achievements.

“With 19 students receiving an ATAR above 90 and many more receiving Study Scores over 40, it is very pleasing to see their efforts appropriately rewarded. We also congratulate all BSSC students for their sustained efforts throughout the year.

“On top of this, there has been great work done by many students whose wonderful achievements are not reflected by an ATAR alone. These students, who have demonstrated perseverance, and faced up to numerous challenges, have built tremendous self-confidence and set themselves up with valuable life skills.

“They are also the heroes of our 2025 cohort.”
