Year 12 Allied Health students, Eve O’Sullivan and Chelsea Hall, have spent the week at St John of God Hospital on work placement… and loved every minute.
Eve, who hopes to study nursing after Year 12, spent time in the surgical ward, rehab, allied health and the medical ward, and is grateful for the experience.
“All the nursing staff at St John of God have been awesome,” she said. “There’s lots of terminology to learn… they’ve taught me the abbreviations for so many medical terms. It’d definitely recommend it as a great place to do work placement.”
Chelsea says the time she spent in the rehab and allied health areas were incredibly valuable.
“I sat with a 93-year-old women and talked to her for almost an hour,” Chelsea said. “It made my day when she hugged me and said thank you.”
Chelsea also worked on the maternity ward and got to meet one of the newborns.
“All the staff have been amazing, teaching me lots and talking me through each aspect of the day.”
Hospital staff said that they loved having the students on placement and commented on how professionally they presented themselves in their BSSC Allied Health uniforms.
