BSSC’s International accreditation was put under the microscope this week as the college welcomed Council of International Schools’ reviewers Ray Davis and Joel Buccholz.
Ray and Joel visited classrooms and had meetings with many groups in the college to assess the college’s progress with its CIS five-year-cycle improvement goals.
Ray Davis has visited BSSC numerous times (four times as a CIS reviewer) since 2001, so has been able to observe the growth of the college as an internationally accredited school.
“Since the college’s initial accreditation in 2001, I have seen a real focus on re-identifying what creates a high quality Year 11 and 12 learning environment,” he said.
“Today there is more rigor in the way teaching is approached and on identifying expected outcomes for learners. BSSC has really developed its identity as a bridge between school and tertiary institutions, and the concept of internationalism is now intuitive and firmly embedded.”
BSSC was the first government school in the world to be accredited by the CIS and has proudly maintained its accreditation since then. As a member of CIS, BSSC is focused on meeting its college purpose and values and providing an internationalised education for its students. Involvement in CIS ensures that the school focusses on meeting the continuing needs of the community it serves.
