Students from Sue Pickles VCAL Intermediate PD&WRS class celebrated their final class of the year on Thursday with a visit to the Council Chambers at the Bendigo Town Hall for a personal Q & A session with Councillor Elect and former BSSC teacher Rod Fyffe.

Students asked a broad range of questions on topics ranging from Cr Fyffe’s personal background and his own experiences of education, to the nitty gritty of decision-making and dealing with serious issues for the city such as the new mosque and the ongoing problems in the Hargreaves Mall.

When asked by one student, what motivates him to get out of bed each morning, Cr Fyffe talked about the joy of helping others make a better contribution to the community.

“Every situation, no matter how difficult it may seem, is an opportunity to help people and make a difference in their lives,” he said. “There’s a lot of satisfaction in being able to do the right thing for a group or person at the right time.”

Students also had an opportunity to try on the Mayoral chain and hear about the traditions surrounding the role of Mayor that Cr Fyffe has held three times.
