Come along and hear a story that begins with a little girl protesting against wearing dresses and insisting she is a boy. Since then Nevo has literally ripped up preconceived ideas about gender. It’s been quite a ride and Nevo’s life is an important example of why understanding and tolerance is so important for all people, but especially for those in the LGBTIQ community.
Vic Diversity and transgender rights activist and author, Nevo Zisin, invites all BSSC students to the Strategem Theatre on Monday 11 September 1:10 – 1:50 pm, to hear Nevo talk about their experiences.
Nevo, now identified as gender neutral, said, “the hardest part of it all has been the ignorance of other people.” Born female, identifying as lesbian at fifteen, Nevo transitioned to gender-neutral at 17. Nevo endured years of bullying and confusion. Recently they told the SMH; “I see myself as a mosaic of femininity and masculinity and complex thought and ability.”
Nevo has also written a very well-reviewed book about their experiences—Finding Nevo: How I Confused Everyone—and this book will be available for $20 (cash only) on the day.
See you there.
