Tuesday brought us the best weather of the last week and the Aquatic Challenge encouraged students and staff to blast into 2016 having fun together in the relaxed poolside atmosphere.

BSSC students spend most of their year focused on achieving academic goals – obtaining a VCE or VCAL certificate and securing employment or a place in a tertiary course. Blast Off week activities help students settle into the college environment and develop confidence for the year ahead.

The Aquatic Challenge, with staff and students dressing in their house colours, is a rare opportunity in the academic year for our students to enjoy games, swim and relax with friends for an afternoon.

The event kicked off with a free barbecue lunch and drinks followed by plenty of pool time, and the iconic HoobeeTubee waterslide.

Non-swimmers had fun with land-based games including a mechanical bull, a watery bouncing castle and archery. The whole college community watched the spectacular AA (aerial acrobatics) competition, hosted by Duane Anderson and Travis Matheson.

Serious student swimmers competed in the annual Golden Goggles competition. The winners were Aarne Santamaki (boys) and Holly Hawke (girls) with Marc Lewin taking out the staff race. Our top student swimmers will go on to compete in the School Sport Victoria Sandhurst and Regional competitions later this month.
