Congratulations to BSSC NETschool Facilitator Anton van Maanen who was recently named Runner-Up in the 2015 Bendigo Inventor of the Year Award.

Anton’s ConnectED App provides teachers with detailed, evidence-based data about each student’s engagement needs, so effective support can be provided before they leave school.

The student appraises their own level of engagement according to: wellbeing, relationships, connectedness to learning, teacher support, and basic needs.

The app will help teachers and counsellors to understand the engagement condition of youth deemed to be at high risk of not completing Year 12.

Re-engaging adolescents in education enables young people to transition from living on the fringe of society (at risk of falling into the juvenile justice system, or life-long dependence on social benefit payments), to being active, skilled and contributing members of the community.
