BADMINTON – SSV STATE FINALS

The BSSC boys badminton team competed in the SSV Finals in Melbourne this week. Against some very talented and experienced opposition, our boys were competitive throughout the day but were unable to secure a win in their three round-robin matches. A couple of the doubles matches could have gone either way. Great effort from team members Mitchell Graham, Alen Shaju, Bryce Purkiss, and Yuhang Sun.

GREAT COMMITTMENT FROM BSSC FOOTBALLERS

The BSSC womens football team fought valiantly in today’s SSV competition, up against a very strong Maribyrnong team in today’s state quarter-final. Maribyrnong got off to a flying start and kicked the first eight goals of the game by half-time. The Lions fought back well in the second half and outscored their opponents in the third quarter, but couldn’t rein in the half-time deficit. They battled hard through to the final siren and should be extremely proud of their commitment and effort. Final scores were 11.12.78 to 2.0.12. Goals for BSSC were kicked by Emma Gilligan and Bree Heiden.

Great team effort from everyone today – team members Natalie Watson, Jemma Finning, Sharni Barker, Bree Heiden, Ella Wicks, Annabel Strahan, Emma Gilligan, Jess Keating, Olivia Carr, Tayla Matotek, Mia Ward, Lauren Vodden, Emily Cooper, Louise McClusky, Milly Martin, Abbey Barber, Emily Galtieri, Holly Congues, Rach Stubbings, Maddi Dobeli, Bree Tranter, coach Dean Sheldrick, boundary umpire Niah Langtree, goal umpire Samantha Bramley, and water-carriers/runners Riley Bouwmeester and Sam Drechsler.

AFL FUTURES GAME – VIC COUNTRY SQUAD

Congratulations to Jack Ginnivan who represented Vic Country in the AFL Futures Match at Ikon Park last weekend. Jack Hickman was also named in the squad but was unable to play due to injury. The Futures games highlight impressive NAB League players who are eligible for next year’s AFL National Draft.

HOCKEY – AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS

BSSC hockey team member, Jorgie Wright, has just returned from representing Vic Country at the Australian Country Women’s Hockey Championships in Shepparton. The Vic Country team finished the tournament with a bronze medal. They won three of their five round-robin matches before losing to NSW in the semi-final. In the bronze medal game, they defeated ADF 6 – 2. Well done Jorgie.
