Today Year 12 English students from BSSC made use of the Bendigo Art Gallery’s outstanding collection of narrative paintings to explore themes related to the poetry of Peter Skryznecki. Born in Germany, Skyznecki migrated to Australia with his Polish parents in 1949, post WWII and lived in a migrant hostel in Parkes, NSW.

The students looked at artworks related to Skryznecki’s themes of old world versus new world – the migrant experience, memories, family relationships, identity, and the cruelty of humans to creature as he was captivated by the natural environment of Australia.

The gallery’s collection continues to be a great source of inspiration and learning for students across a broad range of subject areas.
