House guitarist for ‘The Voice’, Michael Dolce, called last night’s Musician of the Year winner, Rose Norton, “world class” and an appreciative audience of almost 100 at the Ulumbarra Foyer definitely agreed.
“Yours is a name we’re going to hear a lot of in the years ahead,” he said.
This year, 14 of BSSC’s finest young musicians vied for the coveted award in a show that was as varied as it was brilliant. There were knock-out vocal performances and incredible soloists on saxophone, trumpet, piano, drums, bass guitar, violin and cello.
Guest judge, Michael Dolce, had the unenviable job of choosing a winner and four honourable mentions. This year’s award winners were:
Honourable Mentions: Tait Poyser, Roman Martin, Matt Wolters and Ellie Close
Audience Choice Award: Ellie Close
Musician of the Year: Rose Norton
Congratulations also to Manon Maund, Xavier Lock, Zoe Jenkins, Nathan Edwards, Sarah Hurrell, Quinn Scholes, Yanfeng Ross, Alex Hughes and Liam Jenkins who all delivered wonderful performances.
And a big thank you to accompaniest, Dr Peter Butler, and to Alumnus, Jonah Zoch, who entertained the audience while the deliberations took place.
