More than 300 BSSC students gained valuable insights into Australia’s foreign aid program this morning when they heard from visiting High Commissioner to Brunei, Nicola Rosenblum.
Nicola, who graduated from BSSC in 1998, is in Australia for the first ever Global Heads of Mission meeting in Canberra.
She spoke to students about the important facets of foreign aid, including where and how we give aid, why we give, and what we spend it on. Nicola was also able to give students first-hand examples of the cultural intricacies surrounding foreign aid and the research done by UN agencies and NGOs to make aid more strategic and effective.
Lots of students took the opportunity to stay back after the presentation and ask further questions, particularly about pathways into international politics and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Nicola then went on a tour of her former school with Principal Linda Lyons, before enjoying a morning tea with staff and students.
