Year 11 BSSC student, Sean Gleeson, is studying VET Engineering and recently had the chance to use and develop his skills during Structured Workplace Learning with McCulloch’s Hydraulic Engineers, in Epsom. Sean is particularly interested in heavy machinery maintenance and repair.
Sean spent time in the machining unit, performing manual turning on the lathe. He also programmed the CNC mill to make centre punches, which he then heat treated. In the fabrication unit he measured, cut, tacked and welded material to make a tool trolley.
It was a positive experience for Sean who said he felt really welcome and well supported by all the staff. The experience has given him a greater understanding of the engineering industry and has provided clear pathways for his career options.
