Globally 70.8 million people are presently refugees—more than half are under the age of 18. One person is forcibly displaced every two seconds and most need support with food, hygiene and health care.

BSSC’s Student Leadership Team gathered near the sunny plaza at lunchtime today to raise both awareness and funds for the 40 Hour Famine which is seeking to offer essential support to people forced from their homes.
Books donated by the Bendigo Library and clothes donated by students were available for sale.

“The reason we chose this fundraiser is because of the number of refugees at the college who really make this a personal issue for us all,” said Alyssa Lai, President of the SLT.

The team welcomes anyone wanting to join them: go online to the ‘40 Hour Famine’ site and put ‘BSSC 40H Team’ into the team search site.

At least buy a book—or a dress and make sure you donate to this very worthy effort.
